Cloverfield is a film from the guys behind the series Lost and is a cross between a Godzilla theme shot in a Blair Witch Project way. I thought the film was pretty good although the jumpy camera/camcorder work can be a bit annoying. What is interesting is seeing hollywood dare to do something different, rather than dish out the usual formulaic movies. There are no famous actors in the movie, as this wouldn't have worked. As with Lost, the film can leave you with more questions than answers. Although the film is supposed to look like it is shot on a camcorder, professional camera equipment was used, so if you have a dolby surround sound system at home, it will sound good.
